Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if Sarah Selznick is a good fit for my child/family?
A free 15 minute consultation will help you decide if we are the right fit.

Each child and family has their own specific needs and ways of communicating. By having a free telephone or video call we can determine what your needs are, what your expectations are, and if I am the best fit to meet your needs. While I do not take every client who calls for a consultation, I will do my best to provide you with resources (contacts of other professionals or organizations) who may better meet your needs. I am here to help you and and your family and look forward to speaking with you.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been an occupational therapist since 2009. I began my career in New York City - first working in an outpatient clinic for children with developmental disabilities. I then worked at the LearningSpring school - a non-public school serving children on the autism spectrum. I began as a staff occupational therapist and then was promoted to the supervisor of the occupational and physical therapy department. Upon moving to Virginia I worked in home-based early intervention and outpatient pediatrics.
I have worked with many children and families during my career, each with their own unique needs and dynamics. I am a patient and caring therapist who prides herself in being child-centered and an advocate for gentle caregiving. My work is centered on a growth mindset, meaning that I see people as being able to grow and change in positive ways.

I am trained in Sequential Oral Sensory (S.O.S) approach to feeding, self-regulation strategies, therapeutic crisis intervention, sensory integration therapy, and coordination concerns. I use these skills along with active listening and observation to provide excellent evaluation and treatment for children and to support their families.
How does tele-therapy work?
Tele-therapy is a way to deliver occupational therapy services through an electronic audio and visual system. Sensory Explorers, LLC uses HIPPA compliant software that can be accessed on your computer or tablet.

Tele-therapy is an excellent option because it allows you to receive therapy in the comfort of your home without the travel time to and from a clinic.
Tele-therapy also supports parent involvement because parents are active "extenders" by facilitating activities. I will use a collaborative model when introducing activities and parents will facilitate the activity and adjust with my input and observations.
Together, we can use the resources you have available in your home to integrate new skills into your child's daily routine. This will provide excellent carryover and a greater likelihood of reaching goals.
Do you take insurance?
Sensory Explorers, LLC does not take insurance. Upon request, we will provide you with a Superbill that you can submit to your insurance. We can't guarantee reimbursment.
